About ExCEL

The Network

ExCEL inspires, creates, and shares uncommon social and educational experiences to support families along the journey of learning at home. Our members hold a special place in a growing network of homeschools, educational institutions, community organizations, and businesses, each playing a significant role in our mission to enhance the home education experience through information, resources, support, and enrichment . Collectively our efforts support the vision of pooling resources to benefit communities, contribute to public education, and encourage business growth; our outcomes promote healthy living, lifelong learning, community service, and entrepreneurship.

Excellence is to do something common in an uncommon way.
— George Washington Carver

Since 2005, ExCEL has provided a forum for families to share information, resources, and support and create enriching educational and social opportunities.

Our mission...

Guiding Principles...

  • to enhance the home education experience for parents and children through enriching social and educational opportunities including "real-life" and "hands-on" experiences that that address families' interests and connect them to their communities and
  • to inspire excellence through information, resources, and support

Three key principles are the foundation of all ExCEL programs and activities:

Students learn best when activities address their learning styles and interests.

Parent involvement has significant positive effects on student achievement.

Parents and their children are lifelong learners.

Further, ExCEL supports parents in their roles as counselors and coordinators guiding their children’s intellectual and spiritual development to equip them with the life skills required for adulthood.

ExCEL is based in Prince George’s County, Maryland. We connect with families across the country through our website and social media. Follow us for information, resources, and the latest network news. ExCEL extends connections beyond its online presence by bringing local families together for a variety of educational and social activities. Opportunities are organized around four student clubs that address academic interests, a support group for parents, and a social club for the whole family. (See Programs for details.)

Network membership is open to homeschools, community organizations, educational institutions, and businesses offering educational services. Homeschools are invited to join our Google+ community to"meet" other homeschooling families, share information, and collaborate on projects. We do verify homeschooling status; please be prepared to provide documentation from your county/state homeschool office or umbrella group. There is no membership fee for homeschools; fees do apply for selected activities.

To join ExCEL as a community organization, educational institution, or business, please contact us for details. An annual membership fee applies for businesses and organizations who charge fees for their services.
